After India’s bold move in Operation Sindoor, Pakistan is now seriously looking to upgrade its air defence. According to reports, Pakistan has approached Germany to buy one of the world’s most advanced air defence systems to protect itself from Indian missiles—especially the deadly BrahMos.
BrahMos is a supersonic missile that travels at nearly three times the speed of sound. It’s known for its accuracy and speed, making it hard to intercept. With tensions rising after recent operations and fears of another strike, Pakistan seems to be taking steps to prepare.
Germany’s IRIS-T SLM air defence system has already proven itself during the Russia-Ukraine war. It successfully shot down several incoming missiles from Russia and gained international praise for its performance. That’s likely why Pakistan is now eyeing this system—it’s reliable and already tested in real war conditions.
If this deal goes through, it could bring major changes to the military balance in South Asia. But it won’t be so easy. Defence deals like this need approval from many sides, and Germany is also under pressure from its Western allies when it comes to selling weapons to countries in tense regions.
Meanwhile, India is also strengthening its own defences, with systems like the Prithvi and AAD being developed and deployed.
So far, there is no official confirmation from either Pakistan or Germany. But one thing is clear—after Operation Sindoor, both countries are watching each other very closely, and the race for better defence systems is heating up.
