In a powerful message to the world, the QUAD countries – India, the United States, Japan, and Australia – have strongly condemned the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
The statement came during the QUAD Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Washington, D.C. on July 1–2, 2025. Representing India, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stood alongside his counterparts from the U.S., Australia, and Japan as they issued a joint statement denouncing terrorism.
The Pahalgam attack, which took place in April 2025, claimed the lives of 26 people, including 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen. While the attack shocked the nation and drew sympathy from many, China and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) chose to remain silent, not issuing any condemnation.
In contrast, the QUAD’s statement was clear:
> “The Quad unequivocally condemns all acts of terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms and manifestations, including cross-border terrorism.”
They also called for speedy justice against the perpetrators, organisers, and financiers of the Pahalgam attack. This shows the QUAD’s strong support for India’s fight against terrorism and reflects growing trust between these four democratic nations.
🌏 What This Means for India
This diplomatic move highlights India’s shift towards stronger strategic ties with the QUAD. With China’s silence and SCO’s lack of action, India is finding more reliable partners in QUAD countries who are ready to stand with it on serious issues like terrorism.
